Hardscape Production Report Shows Normalization of Growth
Planning is of growing importance in any business today, with margins across all industries getting tighter and competition getting more intense. To provide valuable data that can assist hardscape producers, the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (CMHA) recently released its 2025 Hardscape Production Report for the United States and Canada. “Tapping into insights from this report can help hardscape producers as they prepare their strategy for the upcoming year,” says CMHA President Bob Thomas. “While the highlights from the report are helpful, the full report includes more detail about what our industry is experiencing.” Based on confidential survey responses from hardscape producers as well as production data, the 2025 Hardscape Production Report provides an in-depth look across the hardscape industry. Respondents provided production data for all segmental concrete pavement products, including pavers, paving slabs, permeable pavers, produced by using dry-cast, wet-cast or hydraulic press production equipment. For segmental retaining walls (SRW), respondents provided data on garden wall units, SRW and other related wall products produced using dry-cast production equipment. The 2025 report highlights include several key findings that support slowing growth after several seasons of exponential growth. Despite this pullback, production remains above 2020 levels, showing that some of this explosive growth has been retained and will continue to support greater production numbers than previous baselines. Specific categories — such as Engineered SRW units — held consistent, with some even showing some growth in 2024, as continued demand for high-performance solutions in infrastructure and commercial applications remains. Production gains are expected in the coming years, as participants noted they anticipate a more stable, long-term growth trajectory supported by evolving design trends and investment in sustainable hardscape systems. “As this report shows, we’re seeing a normalization of growth in our industry after several years of exceptional growth,” adds Thomas. “This isn’t unexpected and will be a good opportunity for many producers to stabilize their strategy as they look forward. Overall, those who participated in the survey that this report is based on have positive feelings about the future of hardscape production.” You can read the executive summary and purchase the full report here.
